Thoughts on Hay Season
Every roll of hay on our farm brings mixed feelings.
On one hand, we love hay season!
It brings us so much joy in growing, cutting, and baling our own hay. Knowing exactly what we are feeding our goats and sheep is immeasurable.
On the other hand, hay season brings some of the hottest, longest, and most exhausting work of the whole year.
Almost every summer, we have to race against sudden rainstorms or struggle with high Nebraska humidity, which makes it difficult to bale rounds without trapping too much moisture inside.
It takes hard work, patience, and a lot of effort.
Hay season is tough and wonderful all at once, but seeing those finished bales in the field makes all the blood, sweat and tears well worth it.
